Slightly off the beaten path, but still very convenient to the heart of downtown Asheville- we stumbled across his place yesterday when looking for a late breakfast. I had a sausage and egg on a biscuit and my wife had Something called the breakfast sandwich of delicious. The baker here is gifted for sure. There is a nice local vibe, not touristy like some places can get on the weekend.

I’ve been a regular at Rhu since my first visit because my initial experiences were outstanding. The coffee is great, and I really want to keep supporting this place. Unfortunately, my last two visits have been disappointing due to repeated order mix-ups. On one visit, I specifically asked for my coffee to stay in the cafe, but it was made in a to-go cup even after confirming my order twice. On my most recent visit, we ordered two coffees but only received one, and my flavored matcha latte was made as a regular latte. I had also asked for my drink to-go, but it was served in a mug and then simply poured into a to-go cup after I mentioned it, which left the coffee cold😔 I know mistakes happen, but having similar issues on consecutive visits has been frustrating. I genuinely want to continue coming here, and I hope the team can pay a little more attention to order accuracy because this is a place I’d love to keep recommending.

Dropped by on a whim on my way from Bryson City to Charlotte- and thankful I did! Had a house made sausage, egg, cheese on a bagel and yum. They have an insane pastry case too! The sea salt chocolate chip cookie was layered looking and tasted like heaven.

Benton’s biscuit! Sorry let me say it louder for the people in the back. BENTONS BISCUIT !!!!!!!! Hands down one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. First of all everything we got was a 100000/10. The quality of food you get here is insane. The pastries and cookie were some of the best I’ve had. The BISCUITS…I don’t say this lightly but I’d sell my soul for the recipe. No question. I had to get one to go bc I genuinely couldn’t get enough. I cried when I bit into my biscuit sandwich. The jelly, with the prosciutto with the salty biscuit + gotta get the egg was GENUINELY one of the most delicious things I’ve ever had EVER. Also the coffee? Amazing. The coriander syrup was something I didn’t know was missing in my life. The Rhu has now made every other cafe obsolete to me. Thank you thank you thank you. You will see me again…and again and again:)

Stopped by The Rhu in Asheville, which comes from the same team behind Rhubarb. We grabbed a few pastries to try... croissants, cinnamon rolls, and of course a chocolate chip cookie (because it’s always cookie time somewhere). Everything we ordered was good and clearly well made, but nothing really stood out as something I’d go out of my way to come back for again and again. The chocolate chip cookie was the most memorable item, but not necessarily in the way I expected. It leans heavily into a salted dark chocolate flavor profile. If you close your eyes, it almost feels more like eating a salted dark chocolate bar than a traditional cookie. If that’s your thing, you’ll probably love it. Personally, I tend to look for a little more balance between the sweetness, chocolate, and salt in a cookie. Overall, a nice stop for pastries while walking around Asheville, but nothing that quite pulled me back for repeat visits.
